How to create the perfect 360° watermark template for panoramic images

If you’re sharing 360° images publicly, adding a watermark is a great way to protect your content and reinforce your brand. But regular watermarks won’t cut it in immersive formats—360° images need a template that works with equirectangular projections.

This guide walks you through the best practices for designing and applying watermarks specifically for 360° panoramic images.

Watermarking on Skybox AI Team Plans

If you're on a Team Plan, you can upload a custom watermark to automatically apply on all your generated images—no editing tools required.

To enable custom watermarking:

  1. Navigate to your Profile > Custom Watermark

  2. Upload a transparent .PNG watermark file

  3. Click Preview to see how your watermark will appear on exported images

  4. Check the Enable Watermark box to apply the watermark to your generations

Current feature considerations

Processing Time Impact

When using custom watermarks, please note that watermarked skyboxes are generated on-demand, which adds approximately 6-8 seconds to the loading time each time you:

  • Preview a skybox from your history
  • Load a full-resolution skybox
  • Request any skybox with watermarking enabled

This processing time applies every time you access watermarked content, not just during initial generation.

File Size Requirements

To ensure optimal performance and reasonable processing times:

  • Maximum file size: 2MB for uploaded watermark images
  • Larger watermark files may significantly increase processing time beyond the standard 6-8 seconds
  • We recommend using optimized image files to minimize delays

Watermark Application Behavior

Important: When you enable custom watermarks and upload your watermark image:

  • All existing skyboxes in your account will display with your custom watermark when viewed
  • All newly generated skyboxes will also include your custom watermark
  • This applies retroactively to your entire skybox library while the custom watermark feature is active

Performance Expectations

  • The additional processing time is consistent across all watermarked content
  • Processing occurs each time content is accessed, not just once during creation
  • Plan for the extra 6-8 seconds when sharing or reviewing watermarked skyboxes with team members

Best Practices

  • Use compressed, optimized watermark images to minimize file size
  • Consider the timing impact when planning presentations or client reviews
  • Test your watermark appearance with a few skyboxes before applying to large projects

This functionality prioritizes flexibility and retroactive application over immediate loading speeds. Future optimizations may reduce processing times based on user feedback and adoption.

How to design a 360° watermark template

1. Use a 2:1 canvas

Create your watermark on a 2:1 aspect ratio canvas—ideally 4096×2048 or 8192×4096 to match typical 360° image resolutions.

2. Choose a placement style

Placement Style Best For
Center band (equator) Full-view branding across the middle
Lower third front Subtle logo that shows up in initial camera angle
Repeated edges Low-intrusion pattern across sides or bottom

Be careful when placing imagery at the "poles" as these areas can appear stretched in VR viewers.

3. Export as transparent PNG

When ready, export your watermark as a PNG with transparency so it can be layered cleanly over images.

Tips for great results

Tip Why it matters
Keep opacity around 40–60% Prevents overpowering the image
Test in a 360° viewer See how your watermark appears when wrapped
Stick to PNGs with transparency Avoids ugly white boxes or edges
Use vector or high-res assets Keeps your logo crisp across formats
